KARACHI: Polling for the NA-258 constituency commenced on Monday morning, amid stringent security measures taken by law enforcement personnel.
There are 408,163 registered voters in the constituency, which includes 241,792 male and 166,821 female voters. The seat fell vacant after PML-N member Abdul Hakeem Baloch quit the party and joined Pakistan Peoples Party.
A total of eleven candidates from various various political parties will be contesting the election. Polling begun at 08:00 am and is expected to conclude at 05:00 pm without any interruption.
Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had announced the by-election on 22nd November. The poll date later extended to 24th November due to the administrative reasons.
The election was again rescheduled after Director General Rangers (Sindh) Major General Bilal Akbar had informed the election commission that the para-military agency has been busy in the arrangements of IDEAS 2016 defence exhibition.
Police had claimed that additional personnel would be deployed at polling stations, particularly those that had been declared sensitive. Also, security of the voters, candidates and general public would be ensured by the law enforcement personnel.
